Do you miss summer? Me too. Here are some flowers to brighten the day!

We've had a lot of snow here so far this winter and I'm missing summer already!  I'm getting ready to combat the white stuff by painting some summer garden pictures.  As I was going through my collection of stock photos (I take snap shots of everything... lol) looking for inspiring flowers, I came across this one.  I took this one in July, I believe.  Lots of columbine in the yard, and this patch was especially pretty.  It really reminds me of those warm days with the sun shining so brightly.  Thought I would share it!  I hope it brightens your day as much as it did mine!  I'd love to have a fresh batch sitting in one of my vases!

"Beautiful Sunrise" 2008 Work in Progress Oil Painting by Kathryn M. Pinkham

Click on the pics to see a larger version of the photo.  In these first pictures, you can see I've started laying in some of the undertones.  I'll use the color daubs as my guide as I do my blending.

I like to do a lot of my blending right on the canvas.  I'll layer the clouds up as I go.

At this point it doesn't look like much, just blobs of color.

Ah, it's starting to look like clouds now!    The sun is taking form and highlights brighten the yellows in the clouds.  The painting is almost complete...................

Ta Da!  The oil painting is done!  You'll notice some glare on the painting.  I'll get more pics of it once it dries.

12" x 16"  Oil paints on canvas panel, by Kathryn M. Pinkham.  Will be available for sale once it dries.  Should you like to reserve this painting, please contact me right away.  Visit sunriseworkshop.com for more original works.

Available soon- Original Fine Art Oil Painting ACEO Trading Card Size Goldfinch Bird

Here's another new oil painting for this year, and one of my first ACEO in oils.  There's a bit of glare on this one from the sun, but it's very lovely in person!  The colors are rich and beautiful.  This little guy looks like he's going to fly off the canvas!  Lots of tiny details in this 3.5"x2.5" (inches) painting were created using a tiny brush tip in one day.  This Archival quality artwork was painted on canvas and is sure to last for centuries if properly cared for.  This original oil painting is available through my Etsy store.  Click on the link or copy and paste into a new browser to see the listing! http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=9333017

Available - Original Fine Art Oil Painting ACEO size Chickadee Bird

Here's one of my first oil paintings for the year.  Actually, it's one of my first oil paintings in ACEO size.  ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions & Originals and measure the same as a standard sized trading card.  This small artwork was painted using tiny brush tips, in one day.  Working with oils in this size takes some patience and careful planning.  The end result is well worth the effort though!  I love the details in the feathers and on the chickadee's face!  The colors are rich and you can see some of the tiny brushwork if you look closely.  I've left a small border around the painting for framing.  This bird was painted in oil paints on canvas and is an archival quality piece sure to last for centuries if properly cared for.  This painting is available through my new Etsy store.  Click the link or copy and paste it into a new browser to view the listing.

I hope you enjoy this work as much as I enjoyed painting it!  All the best!  Kathryn M. Pinkham

The deer are hungry this year! Look at what they did...

We've had tons of snow here in Brownville, Maine!  This year, the snow started falling around mid Autumn and has barely stopped.  Oh, it will from time to time.  The sun will come out just long enough to remind us that it truely does exist.  We did have a bit of a January thaw, but it came with rain and still didn't clear the snow.  The deer have struggled in some areas to get to food, the snow is just too deep.  Well, they've turned to eating the cedars that line the property.  EVERY single one looks like this, or worse.  The deer even pulled a birdhouse off it's pole and tried to rip off the side.  I'm fairly sure it was after the dried grasses inside.  I feel for the animals, but I wonder if some of the cedars will even live after they are all done with them.

You can see by the tracks that this is a regular feeding site for them now.

They feed around 5-6 in the morning, before the sun comes up and the street starts to get busy.  We're on the middle of three streets.  This is basically IN town, Maine.  LOL  One of the joys of rural living!  I get to watch the deer feed in the light of the street lamps while I enjoy my first coffee of the day.  Too bad my camera isn't quite rugged enough to get pre-dawn pictures, or I would share those moments as well.  The photos were taken by me, Kathryn M. Pinkham.

Ladybug on Burdock Ladybird Beetle ACEO Trading Card Size Watercolor Art

Here's a new ACEO for 2008.  A cute little ladybug sits on green burdock leaves.  Painted in watercolor paints on acid free watercolor paper.  Size 2.5" by 3.5", the same as a standard size trading card.  I found a huge burdock plant near the Pleasant River in Brownville Junction that was just covered in aphids, and one little ladybug.  The beetle was doing it's best to clean them up, I'm sure.  LOL  Got some great shots of it with my camera!  Well, as I sifted through my summer photos, I noticed how bright one particular photo was.  The ladybug stood out so well against the fresh leaves, I just had to paint it!  :)  Contact me if you're interested in purchasing this original art card!  Kathryn M. Pinkham

"The Advisors" Ravens Cougar Lion Cub Original Pastel Painting

Title:  "The Advisors" by Kathryn M. Pinkham of Sunrise Workshop & Gallery in Brownville, Maine.

    Paper size: 12" x 9" (inches)

Medium: Rembrant professional pastels, and charcoal on acid free smooth Bristol.  Coat of clear protective sealer to protect in shipping.

    Date:  1/3/08

Notes:  This young cougar lion cub is listenening to the ravens advise him as he learns to hunt.  One whispers secrets of stalking while the other looks on aprovingly.  I have taken several pictures of this artwork at different angles, due to the slight glare caused by the clear sealer.  The glossiness of the sealer shows mainly on the feathers of the birds, giving added luster to their feathers.  The fur of the cub is highly detailed and sure to delight any large cat lover.  The brown seen behind the painting is the artboard I photographed the work on, and it is not included.  Although, the paper looks off cut, it is perfectly straight, and only distorted due to the angle of photo.  Please click on the thumbnails to view a larger version of the pictures.
